More than 20 years ago, Roger Price coined the term BREATHING DISORDERED SLEEP.
He did this because the commonly used term, SDB – SLEEP DISORDERED BREATHING – made no sense to him at all. The fact was that it had created a multi-billion dollar industry in intrusive machines and devices, worn at night only, and this addressed the symptoms on a very short term basis.
The effective compliance rate was unacceptably low and thousands of people were going untreated because they could not comply with the invasive intervention. This further prompted him to create something more meaningful, which better described what was happening. This was the origin of BREATHING DISORDERED SLEEP - a term that is becoming used more and more as people understand what the problem is.
An added incentive was that any intervention, designed to resolve an acute short term problem, almost invariably causes unwarranted side effects, and these side effects were becoming more and more apparent as the acute intervention turned out to become long-term ‘therapy’.
He first qualified as a pharmacist in the early 1960s and has spent the past 5 decades studying, training, qualifying and gaining experience in a wide variety of areas of health. It is this background that has him regarded as a world renowned Integrative Health Educator – one with a deep understanding and knowledge of the following topics:
• Asthma management – drug-free
• Behavioral Modification
• Breathing retraining
• Clinical Nutrition
• Craniofacial Pain
• Craniosacral Therapy
• Forensic Toxicology
• Integrative Medicine
• Manual Body Therapy
• Myofunctional Therapy
• Neuro-emotional techniques
• Posture balancing
• Sleep Disorders
• TMJ treatment
With this wealth of knowledge and experience he has created a series of programs which are designed to address causes – rather than the symptoms – and this has met with a measure of resistance in some areas of traditional medicine, dentistry and orthodontics – which simply do not want to be challenged.
